MOL n' The Family
Schtick aside for the moment.
I can probably give you a laundry list of reasons why I love my buddy Rudy Carrasco (the one on the right)
- We have a history of working together and threw a great event in SoCal one time
- He has a great sense of humor that is all over his blog
- He is a high minded visionary with a heart of gold
- He sees the positives in piles of dung
- He said this the day I was fired from my job " . . . man I am right here watching you, cuz someday a firestorm is going to hit me like it is hitting you right now . . ."
- He lives sacrificially every day of his life
- and now . . .
- His son has leukemia. Actually diagnosed sometime ago.
I have mentioned Sam in previous blogs and have asked you to pray for him. And I would like to ask you again. Yesterday Sam had to go back into the hospital with a high fever for the second time in a couple weeks. And thus the life of the young parents (Rudy's wife is the great Kafi) who must track day to day with the up and down health of their young child. Don't get me wrong, Sam is a strong young kid and I am extremely optimistic that he is going to fight through all the chemo etc and be a strapping kid playing liittle league and brushing back batters from the mound like his dad.
But that does not mean all this is without its cost. I grew up in a house with a sick kid. My brother was born and lived with Cystic Fibrosis. And the fact that his health was always in flux changed everything . . . cost us time, money, attention and a "normal" household . . . whatever the hell that is. Rudy runs a very sophisticated non profit in Pasadena and his wife runs the school that is attached. They are very important and influential people in their community. Money and time does not grow on trees for them. And frankly with a young man going in and out of hospitals, chemo, dr's offices and pharmacies I can tell you from personal experience . . . they are praying for money to grow on trees almost literally.
So it is with that I ask that you take a second and go glimpse at Sam's blog. Light a candle or say a prayer for Sam today. And maybe, if God has given you a fat wallet of late, why not click that Paypal button over there and help that young man fight leukemia.
peace
